The Traditional Wedding Ceremony (Ohcet po stari šegi) has been an essential part of the Beer and Flowers Festival for more than 40 years. This year, we will celebrate the marriage of the festival’s 53rd wedding couple according to traditional local customs.

The ceremony showcases authentic wedding traditions, including the bride’s farewell to her family home, the šranganje(wedding gate ritual), the removal of the bridal wreath, the larma (collection of gifts for the bride), traditional wedding dances, and the bride’s arrival at the groom’s home. The entire performance lasts approximately 90 minutes and is brought to life by the dedicated members of the Anton Tanc Cultural Society from Marija Gradec and the Šentrupert Cultural and Artistic Society.
This year’s wedding couple also has a special story. Vesna Lavtižar from Hrušica and Frederik (Freek) van Eijk from Rotterdam discovered the Traditional Wedding Ceremony online and applied with a sincere desire to become part of this unique tradition.
